-
Economy
Value
More expensive than your average hatch, but you get what you pay for.
Costs
Only had servicing and tyres. Insurance can be steep due to GTi tag.
-
On the road
Driving
Solid as a rock. Lots of grip with right tyres. Seats very cosseting and comfy.
Performance
A bit underpowered for a hot hatch, but enough go for most driving situations.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Excellent. Had it 3 years and it's sailed through every MOT without need for any work.
Image
Still looks great.
Comfort
Seats firm but very comfy. Good support holding you in the seat when driving gets 'enthusiastic'.
-
Security and Service
Security
Immobiliser as standard, but most insurers want decent alarm.
Service
Only time it saw a VW dealer was in the hands of a friend who worked there - cheap service!

Problems
Engine
Can stall when cold/wet - service solves this.
Other
Dash bulbs seem to be a bit temperamental.
