I'm interested in quality and reliability when it comes to owning a car.

They're surprised at its features as its nearly 20 years old, they also think it looks pretty smart as its a GTI.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes if I could find a decent 16v or VR6 version.
What are you likely to buy next?
MK4 Golf.

No
What price did you pay?
£850
When did you buy the car?
February 2014
Did you get a good deal and why?
I bought the car private for a good price in terms of mileage, condition and history. With a recent full service and four new tyres fitted.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Volkswagen GTI quality.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
The MK3 in its GTI guise is excellent. The 2.0L 8v engine provides smooth power in every gear when the throttle is applied and can handle motorway driving with ease. On multiple occasions I was able to reach 40mpg. (a bit less with my Thule roof bars and cycle carriers). The 115bhp engine coped really well with four adults in the car as well as a boot full of luggage.
What's it like to park?
Easy.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Nothing at all in the 13,000 miles I have done in the car, it has now just reached over 93,000 miles.
What's most practical about your car?
The five door is an excellent all round car for the price paid. If fits four adults comfortably with good leg room and headroom as well as a great sized boot for a car of this size.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
ABS, air conditioning, front and rear mudflaps and multi-function computer. I bought this vehicle as I wanted a reliable and cheap five door Volkswagen. The GTI styling is very smart and offers many things that modern cars do not have fitted as standard (front fog lights, twin lens front lights, tinted rear lights, rear spoiler, slight tint windows, rear high level brake light, sport bucket style seats and front height adjustable seats).
