Economy
Value
GTI Golfs are as cheap as chips to run and you can thrash them on a daily basis as they have got excellent build quality. It can also become a relaxing mile muncher if you ease it off the throttle.
Costs
Excellent value and hold it very well. Mines is 9 years old now and I still have people telling me they want to buy it. I'm not selling it though!

On the road
Driving
Very good when it came out, although the steering is a bit vague for today's standards and so are the feel of the pedals.
Performance
Performance is fairly average on the "non" 16 valver. It tends to feel a lot like a regular hatchback especially with the lack lustre steering feel & understeer.

Living with it
Reliability
Excellent (Naturally from VW) has never ever let me down once this car, starts in 1 flick of a key. Only has had a couple of punctures as the tyres are low profile's.
Image
Image on the Mk3 was not the best out of the bunch, but some school kids still turn their heads as mines has got a limited edition "Highline" colour paint job.
Comfort
Very comfortable driving seats and front passenger seats, although could do with some rear head rests when pedal is floored.

Security and Service
Security
Superb, mine has got a remote central locking system & immobiliser by Clifford, it screams out loud if an intruder decides to toy with it in the dark.
Service
Fairly good, maybe its a "GTI" thing…
