Volkswagen Golf Hatchback 2.8 VR6 5d (1993/L) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Bit more expensive than other models.
Costs
I have not had too many costs, but previous owner had!

On the road
Driving
Excellent. Even being tall, I still have plenty of room. Comfortable, even on long journies.
Performance
Quite bonkers. Lack of traction lets it down in anything but dry conditions, but 30-60mph in second comes round pretty quick! Even with a boot FULL and 4 people in it, it still goes very well.

Living with it
Reliability
It's only let me down a couple of times due to a flat battery (left the lights on !!) and the plug leads had to be changed to cure a misfire when it was hot.
Image
Bit of a cult car, much like the GTi.
Comfort
Could do with air con. Having sports seats, suspension and 50 profile tyres, it can be a bit bumpy.

Security and Service
Security
Previous to me owning it, it has certainly been broken into by broken windows. Has a Cat 2 immobiliser and is really too old for anyone to bother now I think.
Service
Local dealer was extremely helpful. They even told me what the car had been to them for previous to me owning it, which is when I found out how much the previous owner had spent on it !!
