Volkswagen Golf Hatchback 2.8 VR6 5d (2000/V) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Pricey, but holds its value well.
Costs
Parts and servicing can be dear, but not as heavy on petrol as some say; 28mpg commuting and 32mpg on long runs. Eats front tyres.
-
On the road
Driving
Fantastic, but you have to work it hard. Corners on rails.
Performance
Not much oomph low down, but astonishing when the revs and power build up. Stay above 4000rpm for the real McCoy.

Living with it
Reliability
Nothing to complain of, given the age of this one. Only one roadside stop - burst heater hose.
Image
Teenage kids think it's the coolest thing on the block. So do I.
Comfort
Quiet and solid. Even better than lesser VWs.

Security and Service
Security
Not an issue where I live...
Service
Parts are dear, but the service is good.
