Got a good deal from Benfiend Motors, Scotswood Road, Newcastle.
Costs
So far seems very economical.

Driving
Tried lots of other hatchbacks before the Golf, including the much lauded Yaris, and latest Fiestas - nothing felt as instantly good to drive as my Golf. It was love at first bite! Really great to drive, smooth and responsive for a 1.4.
Performance
Performs as you'd hope a good 1.4 hatchback would. It isn't going to fly let's face it, but it's certainly nippy - and has a sportyish feel to it. Corners well.

Living with it
Reliability
So far, so good, no problems.

I love my car. What more do you need to know?
Comfort
Very comfortable. Long distance drives are no problem. Suspension is excellent. All the home comforts associated with VW that I'd heard about for years, and am now enjoying. Interior design is functional and subtle, but never ceases to please.

Security and Service
Security
Not much comes as standard. Probably one of the only downsides.
Service
Someone said to me recently that buying a car was akin to sawing your head off with a teaspoon. If you feel like that, live in the NE and want VW, go and talk to Paul Tones at Benfield Motors, he'll restore your faith in car salesman! Knowledgeable too!
