Economy
Value
Very expensive compared to rivals. But then resale value is better than it's rivals
Costs
Best purchased while still under manufacturers warranty. Beware! The Golf 1.6 petrol engine runs on super unleaded. Run your car on unleaded and it pinks and rattles all day long. Try getting your VW dealer to inform you of this before you buy.

On the road
Driving
Poor around town and on country lanes. Best driven on the motorway.
Performance
Sluggish from standing start. Loves the motorways

Living with it
Reliability
Loads of silly problems, local dealer very poor. Have had to travel some 25 miles to another dealer to get the cars problems resolved.
Image
3rd Golf and they seem to be getting worse instead of better. Then again everybody seems to want a Golf, so never have a problem selling them on.
Comfort
Great on those long drives, but a bit tight in the back for an adult.

Security and Service
Security
Deadlocks, Alarm and still on my drive.
Service
Very Poor. Have had to shop around to get car repaired properly. VW in Bromley extremely poor.

Lots of pinking and rattles, but that's due to the engine requiring SUPER UNLEADED FUEL. it's only a 1.6 family motor, not a Ferrari
