Volkswagen Golf Hatchback 1.8 T GTI 5d (1998/S) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Quite expensive but you know it's gonna last so…
Costs
All depends on how heavy your foot is.
-
On the road
Driving
Feels solid. Maybe a bit wobbly on the bends but it's a trade-off for a fairly comfortable ride.
Performance
Performs the same as my old MK3 16v but you don't have to work it so hard. Can't wait to chip it!
-
Living with it
Reliability
Haven't had it very long but don't expect too many problems...unless I chip it!
Image
Sits quitely with nothing to prove. In danger of becoming mundane due to lack of distinction between the models.
Comfort
Recaros, climate control, power steering etc - anyone who can't get comfortable with that has a problem.
-
Security and Service
Security
Standard alarm and immobiliser haven't been tested yet. I guess time will tell.
Service
Local main dealer over-prices (execpt on part exchange obviously). Service poor. Warranty not worth the paper it's written on....... other than that, yeah fine.
