Volkswagen Golf Hatchback 1.8 T GTI 5d (1999/T) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Worth paying extra for, as it wont end up on the scrapheap like a Vauxhall or Ford.
Costs
Ok, but dealer servicing wont do you any favours, except stamping the book.
-
On the road
Driving
Comfortable but stodgy handling.
Performance
A bit boring and heavy for a GTi. Looks like they'll never beat the Mk1/2. Might as well have bought the Diesel and enjoyed better economy.
-
Living with it
Reliability
A couple of minor problems. Didn't expect total perfection, so long as it lasts as long as my Mk2.
Image
Young lads wont like the lack of rice, but a bonus for everybody else. A nice clean, chunky looking hatch.
Comfort
It's a comfy car for a hatch.

Security and Service
Security
All cars could have better security! But they make more money when they're nicked, don't they.
Service
Got ripped off by my local dealer in MK for a tune up, due to a faulty ignition lead.
