Summary
What does this car say about you?
Probably a bit dull and practical but if they looked close enough at the badge they'd realise there was more than meets the eye!
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
They like it, other half loves the speed and handling. Rest think I'm mad because it's green!!!
Would you buy this car again and why?
Not a Mark 4 as these little niggles are annoying. But love the Diesel reliability and economy so would look at a newer model without doubt. Shame cos the Mark 4 is a good looker.
What are you likely to buy next?
Another TDI Golf or a similar diesel spec

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Didn't buy from a dealer
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£5,000
When did you buy the car?
August 2009
Did you get a good deal and why?
No, I paid more than the car was worth, as I didn't find out till afterwards it was a Category D write off.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I needed a reliable, not too slow, economical motorway plugger, that was just as at home on B roads.
What was the dealer like?

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
I think it's quite heavy steering, but nippy. The ride is fairly firm, not as comfy over potholes as my other halfs Audi A4. Perfectly comfy enough for a 6 hr trek to Cornwall.
What's it like to park?
Good visibility, once you get used to the quite thick side pillars. Steering is okay, could be lighter.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
So far, I've had to replace both front electrical window systems, apparantly this is a common VW weak area. Also, had to replace both front shocks but could be down to the state of the roads. Also the climate control motor has had to be replaced, which according to my VW mechanic is another well know VW weak spot. Not as reliable as I thought it would be.
What's most practical about your car?
The MPG is fantastic, supposed to get 55mpg ave but I'm getting upto 68mpg on B roads and usually 56mpg on motorways. Good practical size too and fairly nippy for a heavy diesel. All down to 6th Gear!!
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The digital average fuel consumption display!! 6th Gear, the best invention ever!! So torquey and still accelerates well.
