What does this car say about you?
Not sure, as i have liked them for years regardless of what 'others' may think. I guess people generally see a Golf as a positive little car. Aspirational purchase? Next step is a BMW?
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Smart looker, quality image.
Would you buy this car again and why?
No. Never thought I would say that after owning 7 Golf Gti's in 15 years of driving. MKIV Gti 8v performance and handling way off the mark with a rough thirsty engine. Constant electrical niggles and creaky interior and suspension spoil the package.
What are you likely to buy next?
3 Series possibly.

Did you get a good deal and why?
Offered good part ex for my old car, other than that the dealer was as dodgy as the rest of them, issues not resolved before collection, car not valeted as promised.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Owned MKII and MKIII Golf GTi's before, practical and classy car, good looks, good image, strong resale, good standard spec.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Engine and handling on MKIV 2.0 GTi not worthy of GTi badge compared to previous generations. 2.0 8v engine is sluggish, rough to use and heavy on juice when you push along. Too much body roll and bounce in the bends and rough surfaces. Astra and Focus much better.
What's it like to park?
If you can't park this then give up driving. Boxy shape and good power steering mean this car is easy to park and navigate around car parks.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Problems with engine management light fault not able to be fixed, creaking interior\suspension. Interior light faulty (would not turn off when door closed and alarm set) Rough running when starting from hot, starter motor cable snapped off the battery terminal, leaving me stranded in expensive Hospital Car park.
What's most practical about your car?
size + shape, cup holders, comfort, good headlights.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
superb dashboard 6 CD changer hifi, blue and red dashboard, tinted glass and mirrors, fuel computer.
