Volkswagen Golf Hatchback 2.0 GTI 5d (2001/Y) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Fantastic value considering the GTI name, I'd imagine re-sale will be excellent for same reason.
Costs
Service costs and parts quite expensive, but hey it's a VW you pay for what you get.

On the road
Driving
Handles well, good solid feeling on the road. Good handling at speeds unless you drive like a boy racer.
Performance
My Biggest and only problem, 0-60mph pretty poor for a GTI, but on long motorway journeys no unnecessary gear changes required, overtakes adequately and safely.

Living with it
Reliability
EMU light activated after 3 hours of owning, apparently its a small common fault with the GTI, as yet problem undetected, I've only just bought it.
Image
This car could have no wheels, rust and people would still crawl over hot coals to get one it is after all a VW Golf GTI. All minor issues aside i.e. performance this car looks and feels great.
Comfort
Has everything you need and nothing you don't. Seats can be a bit uncomfortable over long distances though.

Security and Service
Security
Rumour has it that it's one of the best but as of yet untested.
Service
VW service not the best, advise using an independent reliable dealer.
