Volkswagen Golf Hatchback (2004 - 2008) 1.6 SE FSI 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
So I got this is my first car own since passing my driving test; I heard lots of complaints about the Astras having gearbox problems and the build quality on other brands such as Peugeot were off-putting to me, so I was looking at VW since they rarely had any of those problems.
The car itself is a love and hate relationship, and it has its problems with electrical failures such as central locking, O2 Sensor & windows dismantling itself. I would also like it to be a bit better on the acceleration side of things because this car struggles up a hill. You need to whack the gear between 1 and 2 gear to get up a 50° incline hill.
On the plus side, you have lots of tech for the time, especially with cruise control saving you from foot cramps and the red night lights when driving at night as it makes you feel like a nightrider a lot, you can also put an early mk7 DAB GPS radio in your car as an upgrade for £250, and it gives you car play which is a blessing.
The boot size is amazing for the car as I can fit in lots of furniture from Ikea, or even my giant tent and equipment with the seats down when I go camping and bring 2 extra friends with you, including their stuff. Just the person in the back is in their own den and looks hella comfortable.
So this car is alright for a small family, but if you're looking at something fun to drive and accelerates, then get a diesel-like MK 5 golf 2.0 TDI or 1.4 TSI. However, the only engine problems I've had are spark plugs and a broken sensor, so it's surprised me.
Out of everything I would give it a 6/10.
