Volkswagen Golf Hatchback (2004 - 2008) 1.9 Match TDI 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
This is my first car, and has served me very well. I wanted something a little bit bigger than usual Clio or Polo, and I knew a diesel engine would give me more torque and decent power (the 105 bhp of the 1.9 is considered underrated). I picked the model very carefully, avoiding the DPF version and making sure I got either a Match or Sport for the equipment. I found my one for sale privately with 72k miles, used mainly as a commuter. At time of writing it's about to tick over to 100k. I love cars and often get itchy feet thinking of buying something more 'fun' but then I think of my Golf, which has performed faultlessly, costing hardly anything to own and run, all while being the best car in its class to drive, and question why I would ever buy anything else.
How reliable do you find the car?
These were mostly directly after I bought the car, the water pump failed and engine stopped working, leaving me stranded. This happened again with another part (I forget which) but both were fixed easily and cheaply by an independent and continued with no issues whatsoever for a further 28,000 miles. Otherwise just general wear and tear, new brake pads etc.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
This car has been great, i've spent a good portion of the last two years commuting in it, and it hasn't missed a beat. Its ferried friends and family in comfort and has provided me with a safe, reasonably fast and great to drive first car.About their car
