Summary
What does this car say about you?
Appreciates quality and reliability without compromising style and refinement.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
They love the car. The female family members and friends seem to like the comfy seats, storage and black pearlescent paint whilst the blokes like the blue and red instrument lights in the dark.
Would you buy this car again and why?
If I had the opportunity to buy this car again, I would opt for the 2.0 TDi of the GT Sport model. 140bhp is worth having over the 104bhp of the 1.9.
What are you likely to buy next?
2.0 GT Sport

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent
Did you buy this car new?
Yes
What price did you pay?
£14,350
When did you buy the car?
September 2008
Did you get a good deal and why?
A very good deal, discounted quite considerably from main dealer prices but with all the benefits of buying from a main dealer.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Always admired VW build quality. I drive a considerable amount of miles every week and needed a car that could take a hammering and still not rattle.
What was the dealer like?
Very professional service, cannot fault them.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Overall it is very pleasant to drive although not a hot hatch by any means. Around town the steering is light and acceleration is good. It is slightly let down on the motorway by engine noise and lack of power at the top end. Cruising at 80 with the stereo on is the best option! Driving position is superb, the seats and steering wheel adjust to suit just about anybody, I'm over 6' and feel like I'm driving a much larger car due to the sheer amount of room up front. Possibly the most comfortable car I've ever driven.
What's it like to park?
Easy to park, it's a standard size hatchback, visibility seems fine. I did not opt for parking sensors as the boot line is fairly vertical meaning what you see over your shoulder is easy to judge in terms of 'distance to impact'.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
The warning light and chiming noise to tell you the seat belt is undone comes on if I take a corner at speed. MPG is not as high as I'd expected however my driving style probably has a large influence on that aspect.
What's most practical about your car?
The storage is good. I paid for the storage pack which gives under seat storage trays as well as a luggage net.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Auto headlights, cruise control and Ipod connection.
