Volkswagen Golf Hatchback 2.0 GT TDI 5d (2004/53) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Resale values high, especially on diesel models.
Costs
A tad on the expensive side, but less than the equivalent Audi A3 Sportback.

On the road
Driving
The MK5 puts the MK4 to shame in this department. The ride is incredible, and the ESP and traction contract can get you around corners much more quickly than you'd believe!
Performance
140 bhp from a diesel - enough said! I always run on BP Ultima. God only knows what the 170 bhp version will be like.

Living with it
Reliability
One minor door-lock solinoid, replaced under warranty.
Image
At first I thought it looked like a Peugeot 307, but now the MK5 has really grown on me.
Comfort
Great driving position, everything is adjustable. Fly by wire throttle is lovely and responsive.

Security and Service
Security
I think the standard immobiliser and alarm are OK.
Service
I'm prepared to travel around for VW service. Nearly £70.00 was saved on the major service between a Surrey dealer and one in East Anglia.
