Yes but probably a turbo version with a bit more poke.

Did you get a good deal and why?
I believe I got a good deal because I made it clear to the dealer that I could take it or leave it and wasn't in any hurry to change my car.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
VW Golf reputation

Very good, very helpful.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
A pleasure to drive and I enjoy every minute of it, whether round town or on the motorway. I enjoy it even more when I remind myself it's giving me 55mpg.
What's it like to park?
Easiest car I've ever parked. As easy to drive backwards as forwards.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Glow plug needed replacing at 50,000 and about a month later all 4 needed replacing. Bolt sheared on fuel cooler at same time. Expensive repair.
What's most practical about your car?
It's a decent sized hatchback which can carry all I need it to carry. I recently drove it 3000 miles to Italy and back.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Base model so not too big on gadgets.
