Volkswagen Golf Hatchback (2009 - 2012) 1.4 TSI SE 5d DSG Owner Review

From a design point of view the car is very satisfying, having reasonable performance, passenger and boot space, and comfort. Thus, initially, it was up to expectations. The one poor experience has been the few but expensive breakdowns. The major one was a failure of the mecatronics box attached to the 7 speed auto gearbox. This occurred after 7 years of gentle driving and involved a 2000 pound repair, which also included the replacement of the boot catch. I´m advised that the mecatronics problem is a wellknown fault on 7 speeders, caused by corosion in the cooling mechanism, and was fixed by a new design on cars post 2013. The only other failure was a water pump that needed replacement after 6 years.
