Volkswagen Golf Hatchback (2013 - 2020) 2.0 TSI 245 GTI Performance DSG 5d Owner Review

The car has been faultless since purchase. Given that it is a later model 7.5 gti pp it comes with additional ‘free’ options such as keyless entry, reversing camera, and full light assist. Car is a joy to drive, whether cruising the motorway to work, or testing it on the windy country lanes. It’s ability to change from sedentary, and cosseted to loud, brash, and in your face is sure to put a smile on your face. The smooth DSG gearbox is for the most part exceptional with the occasional lag in deciding which set of cogs it really wishes to select, though this is easily rectified by popping it into semi auto mode and choosing for yourself. Having covered 28k miles since owning, I have averaged around 38-39mpg. This can be as high as 46-48 with a motorway run, or as low as 33 if driven like it should be. Tyre wear has been as expected, with roughly 14k miles on the front rubber before needing new shoes, though I would suggest avoiding the Bridgestone tyres the GTI normally comes shod with, as they are incredibly noisy in comparison to the Michelin pilot sport 4. There is plenty of space for a family of four including luggage for a week’s staycation if needed. Overall, I am delighted, and the simple fact that I have a smile on my face every time I drive this car, is testament to its all round abilities. It might not be the fastest, or the sexiest car on the road, but servicing is cheap as is the insurance, and so I believe it is by far one of the best all rounders available for the money. Miles for smiles is how it should be!!!!
