Volkswagen Golf Hatchback (2013 - 2020) Match Edition 1.5 TSI Evo 150PS DSG auto 5d Owner Review

I've been driving for nearly 60 years, first in a Morris Minor and now a VW Golf and what a difference half a century of development has made! Obviously the Golf is more refined, luxurious and safe, however I can't help wondering if it's too complex for its own good, as there's lots to go wrong. I've always done my own servicing, but with so many of the systems under computer control, this is obviously going to be impossible. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and shielding, the Golf has spent most of its time in the garage and I've only ventured out for a short drive every couple of weeks in order to keep the battery charged, etc.. Perhaps I need more time to get used to it, but I have three dislikes: (1) I find the brakes over-sensitive and it's very difficult to drive smoothly in stop/start traffic. (2) Talking of stop/start, I hate the engine stopping when the car does, so I switch the system off. Shame it can't be switched off permanently! (3) Not having a smart phone means the built-in Sat Nav is useless, but I wouldn't use it anyway, as the screen is so low down that I would have to take my eyes off the road, so I consider it very dangerous. I've mounted a TomTom on top of the dash, where I can glance at it whilst the road ahead is still in my eyeline and that is perfect (except for the dangling cable!). But these are only niggles, as I'm very pleased with the Golf overall and would recommend it, especially in Match Edition with all the bells & whistles. I hope these comments are useful to any prospective owner.
