Volkswagen Golf R (2010-2012) verdict
Should you buy a 2010 Volkswagen Golf R?
Being a rare and fast Volkswagen makes this hot property indeed. As the first of the mighty R franchise, that super heats it – even if you’re unikely to have seen one on the road. But here we are – no longer is the GTI the peak of the Golf hierarchy, the R adds more speed, oodles of grip and dynamic precision compared with many of its rivals.
It’s rare now and that means you’ll be paying decent money for what apprears to be quite an old hot hatch. But look around and you’ll find one for less than £10,000, although the best ones are already pushing £20,000.
What you get for your money is a fast hatchback that’s easy to live with, well understood by a huge swathe of specialists and has a good margin of safety thanks to secure four-wheel drive performance. If you want one, you’ll need to move quickly in order to get one before they start going up!
