Volkswagen Golf R (2014 - 2016) 2.0 TSI R Hatchback 5d DSG Owner Review

In their own words
I picked up my Golf R last week and its been a revelation. If you bear in mind I sold a 61 plate Jaguar XJ to buy this then when I say its comfy, bear in mind what I am used to. So how I have I found it. Really easy to drive, both slowly and at warp speed. I haven't done may miles yet but its shown 27 mpg knocking around and 32 on a longer run. The tech is superb. Connection to my iphone is faultless, the Apps all work off the main screen which is clear and responsive. The active display can carry quite a bit of information but is customisable to take stuff off if you like a more simple display. I am really impressed with the comfort, I stuck to the standard wheel and gave the active suspension a miss. Its easy to park even without the rear camera as all round visibility is great. For those with a Mk 6 Golf this is a big step up in comfort and interior noise control. My Wife has a Golf Gti so I know the new 7.5 is quite a big step forward. I have the Dynaudio hifi which sounds OK but not as good as the 600W Jag system but that's probably down to bigger heavier doors and more interior room to fill with sound. The Pan roof is a great addition and really lightens up the dark interior. But even with all these plus points its the awesome acceleration and road holding that make this car something special. I am almost 50 and had my share of hot hatches until the kids came along but nothing compares to this. Actually that's not true, my motorbike went like this this car. I am sure if you have got to this review you have already read many other glowing reports and now I own one I can say there are all true, and as Autocar said, its probably the best car you can buy in the UK today. Now I have one sitting in the garage for the first time in 20 years I have a car that I just want to get back in and drive for the sheer pleasure of driving. With the added bonus of being able to take the Wife, three kids and a Golden Retriever if I want to. Something the Jag XJ couldn't manage, as big as it was. My eldest has just passed his test and now his Dad is the coolest on the planet and his mates are lining up for me to take them out. I never had that with the Jag either.
