In their own words

The id3 has been a grower. Initially I didn’t like and was annoyed by the need to fathom out the non intuitive steps needed to interact with it and the lack of buttons to press. However, over time once you get used to that I have grown to really like the car. It is easy to drive, very smooth, easy to control particularly in b mode. The range is good, over 7000 miles I have only ever needed to charge from a 3 pin charger and have been on 250 mile round trips and commuted to work 40+miles a day. Pushing on over 70 on the motorway eats the range so it rewards a more relaxed approach, using the automatic cruse control is the way to go, set to 70 and relax.
The car is comfortable, I like the heated wheel and seats, the stereo is good and when you use apple car play the phone and hands free work well. Loads of room in the cabin, boot is fine.
I find it is fast enough in traffic both in town and on faster roads, it is very responsive and overtaking is easy as the power is instant. The handling is safe and predictable, it can be driven quickly but responds best to a smooth approach and is best in b mode when you can control the weight movement using the accelerator. It will twitch the tail on a wet bend if you provoke it but it’s never felt anything other than predictable.
The id3 voice recognition is really annoying so I turned that off and that was a major improvement as it didn’t understand anything I said but wanted to interrupt every conversation!
The automatic dipping of the headlights doesn’t work too well as I find I get flashed a lot if they are on so have started dipping myself again. The lights are really good so still get flashed as people think they can’t be dipped when they are!
There are loads of safety features, it’s works to protect you which is good so when my daughter uses it as I know it will be concentrating even when she isn’t. Having said that I find it a bit frustrating to have to turn the lane assist off every time I get in. That’s modern legislation though so not VW’s fault.
It’s not a flashy car and I like that, it’s like a golf, classless and that suits me.
