Volkswagen ID.7 GTX verdict
Should you buy one?
If you look at the Volkswagen ID.7 GTX in isolation, it’s an excellent product. It’s comfortable, and hugely spacious, while also boasting a long electric range and generous equipment levels. The trouble is, all those attributes are done by the regular ID.7 for a much lower price.
As with several other GTX models, this version of the ID.7 feels more like a trim level than it does a performance car and doesn’t feel the step up in quite the same way that a Golf GTI is to a standard Golf. It’s still an excellent electric car, but not a particularly fun one to drive, and that’s why we would stick with the standard Volkswagen ID.7. We did name it the Parkers Large Family Car of the Year after all.
What we like
The GTX carries over many of the standard ID.7’s traits, with its well-built and spacious interior that is ideal for longer journeys. It’s particularly well-equipped too, while also brings more performance without sacrificing any comfort or refinement.
What we don’t like
The GTX just doesn’t seem a big enough step up compared to a regular ID.7 to warrant its existence. It’s more expensive and can travel noticeably fewer miles, yet brings minimal performance benefit.
