Should you buy one?

If you’re looking for a practical electric car, the Volkswagen ID.7 makes a lot of sense and comes strongly recommended. It has many highly desirably family traits of a family car – including spaciousness, safety and comfort – and wraps them together in a package that looks good and feels upmarket. It’s a family you’d want to buy, rather than feel like you need to buy.

Generous equipment levels and that exceptional 424-mile electric range make the ID.7 a very desirable electric car and well worth choosing.

What we like

We love that another electric estate car is now available as choice is so important in the EV world. The ID.7 is also a genuinely practical choice with a big boot and lots of rear-seat space. It’s also got a very long electric range and the comfort and refinement are among the best of any electric car.

What we don’t like

Not too much, really. The ID.7’s touchscreen-dominated interior won’t please everyone, and the general design isn’t all that exciting – Audi’s new A6 Avant E-Tron is a far more interesting proposition. We also think you’re best off not bothering with the ID.7 GTX. The standard car is more than quick enough, and the effect on the range from its dual motors is pronounced.
