Volkswagen Jetta 1.6 TX 4d Auto (1988/E) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
If careful, good examples can be picked up cheap.
Costs
Cheap to keep running. Parts can be sourced cheaply.
-
On the road
Driving
Take care of steering/suspension parts and you will still get that solid driving feel.
Performance
More than adequate. Handles regular trips on motorways between Cheshire and Perthshire (400 miles each way) with minimum fuss.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Keep on top of service items (e.g. cambelt) and these cars are bulletproof.
Image
More sober alternative to Golf. Doesn't have the boy racer image, but for someone a bit more mature, it makes a sensible alternative. Can look great modified.
Comfort
Not so great if you like a soggy ride. Worth replacing seat foam pads as they do lose support for bum and thighs at higher miles.
-
Security and Service
Security
Not the best. Worth fitting anti-pry plates and good alarm system.
Service
Dealerships have given the same standard of service I would expect if I owned one of their latest models
