Summary
What does this car say about you?
Sensible and practical I guess?
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
My friends love it - loads of room for them and very comfortable. My family didn't know what a Jetta was, but are won over by it too! At the end of the day I don't mind what people think, I love the car and that's all the matters!
Would you buy this car again and why?
Definitely
What are you likely to buy next?
VW Jetta or other VAG saloon.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£6,000
When did you buy the car?
April 2011
Did you get a good deal and why?
Cheaper than older higher mileage Octavias! Decent part ex price for my car. Trustworthy guy (Frank Gillespie Car Sales Paisley).
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Needed a reliable, economical car - was looking for an Octavia but this was cheaper!
What was the dealer like?
Was prepared to cover the cost of ABS control unit replacement (common fault) + diagnostic costs, which he highlighted when I collected the car. As it happened VW fixed it under warranty (though charged him diagnostics). Top guy, can't fault him at all!

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Great on the motorways, fine in and around town and good fun on the rural roads. Plenty of oomph in the engine for me and the ride is very comfortable.
What's it like to park?
It's fine, you get used to the high boot line. The steering lock is fantastic!

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
ABS control unit fault, very common with Mk5 Golfs. VW acknowledged this and given its FSH replaced under warranty.
What's most practical about your car?
The economy and the boot!
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Auto dimming mirror! If you've got an iPod I'd recommend getting an auxilliary adapter - plugs straight into the CD Changer port and works well.
