Volkswagen Lupo (1999 - 2005) 1.0 E 3d Owner Review

In their own words
Bought this car a week after passing my driving test, as it was fairly cheap to insure considering it's age. Paid £550 for it, in the 6 months I've owned it I have done around 1200 miles in it, although I've had to replace the indicator switch, have the ignition coils replaced due to a misfire and now the crankshaft sensor has failed which is currently being replaced. So it's not proved entirely trouble free, but for a 17 year old car a lot more could have gone wrong than it did. I wouldn't recommend getting the 1.0 E version, it's sparsely equipped and the engine isn't up to much, nor is it frugal due to having to work it hard to make any meaningful progress. The age of the car also means the insurance is expensive, although it's also my age and where I live that affects that more. If you want something different, by all means get one, but probably start looking at them as classic cars now, and get at least the 1.4 S, if not the 1.4 Sport or the 1.6 GTi.
