Volkswagen Lupo (1999 - 2005) 1.4 Sport TDi 3d Owner Review

In their own words
I've owned dozens of cars, from Porsches to Japanese sports cars, Morris Minors, 2CVs etc.etc. and the little Lupo is the best All-Rounder I've ever had! It manages at least 3 clever tricks: It's both sporty (in a gentle sort of way) and economical - that 1.4 TDi diesel has got way plenty enough torque for a car that's really quite light. It's both spacious (I don't have a family and so can drive around with the 2 rear sets permanently folded, so I've got a great big boot at the same time as having the ability to give three chums a lift, pretty quickly and easily) and at the same time, it's neat and compact. It's both nippy round town, sporty-feeling round country lanes and steady and smooth on the motorway - it'll potter along at 70-80 nice and steady, in the 3 cylinder motor's sweetspot, and with Dunlop BluResponse tyres all round, it's quiet for a little car, too! Lastly, with the optional (and rare) OpenAir folding top, it's the next best thing to owning a cabriolet. All this and a nice feeling to the build quality, and the best part of 60mpg - the tiny tank costs about £27 to fill up (Aug '16) and even given the size of the tank, it's got a whopping range on a single fill! I've been mulling over the notion of swapping it for either an Audi TT or else a Mini, but every time I get back in the Lupo and go on any sort of run, be it short, medium or long ( I can happily do 250 miles in a day, without being tired), I think again! Deffo the most versatile car I've had. The Business!!
