Volkswagen Passat Estate 2.0 CL 5d (90) (1992/J) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Great value meant I paid half the price of a 1992 golf for twice the car!
Costs
Does 34mpg or more on long runs, parts expensive, but I avoid main dealers - independant garages will fit genuine parts cheaper.

On the road
Driving
For an estate it handles really well, I drive daily on country lanes which it takes easily in its stride.
Performance
Again, for a big heavy car the 2.0 litre engine copes well on the lanes, cruises easily at 90 mph.

Living with it
Reliability
I bought it at 85K and is now on 122k, overall for the mileage, it has been fairly reliable, although some components have had to be replaced.
Image
It is a plain car, I did not buy it for its looks, although I am surprised at how many people like the styling and mainly the size.
Comfort
Comfortable, loads of room front and rear, PAS is weighted just right - a pleasure to drive.

Security and Service
Security
Not had any problems, but I have fitted the optional luggage area sliding cover, to keep prying eyes out and to seperate the contents from my passengers.
Service
Main dealer parts guys are OK, service department however are more than willing to fleece you.
