-
Economy
Value
Expensive from dealers. And had to pay top book price in order to own low mileage example.
Costs
Running costs are low for TDi models.
-
On the road
Driving
Good to drive, so long as the sports suspension is fitted. Standard suspension underdamped!
Performance
Mid-range torque and overall performance much superior to 1.8 aspirated.
-
Living with it
Reliability
No un-planned faults/problems at all in 20,000 miles since buying car.
Image
Looking older now compared to newer Passat and other offerings, but still good.
Comfort
The standard suspension not good for comfort as it tends to get sloppy making passengers feel ill! No such problem with the sports suspension.

Security and Service
Security
Heard of problems with VW locks, so always fit safety lock to wheel to make sure?!
Service
Carry out all work myself or use independant specialist. VW dealer prices per hour are excessive and service has not been worth the money on several occasions! So now refuse to use them!
