Economy
Value
There was a 'Pack' car from the main dealer in Wigan so a saving of £4,00 plus against new.
Costs
Burned a litre of very expensive oil by 8,000 miles but settling down now but some Passats can use a lot more.

On the road
Driving
It's a heavy car at 1600 kgs plusso I expected it to feel heavy and it does, but acceleration good and a great cravan tow truck
Performance
Smooth and quiete even when pused, diesel sounds a bit throaty and booms a bit, but a satisfying sound in some respects. The 6 spd gearbox is too clunky.

Living with it
Reliability
At 14,600 miles notice all 4 tyres were scrubbing outer edges of the tyres, dealer service manager said did not know why? Need a 4 wheel alignment and dealer has finally paid, I had an independent do it, I am sure it came from the factory like this.
Image
Lots of website and personal knowledge complaints about VW's generally and some report outs of problems which dealers decline to acknowledge or will not fix make ownership of an otherwise fine car a worry!
Comfort
The seats take a bit of getting use to, but very comfortable on a long journey, lots of leg room in rear, clutch pedal too close to bulkhead so difficult to place left foot on the footrest, anyone with more than size 10 feey may struggle.

Security and Service
Security
Good all round, just wished the alarm bleeped when setting instead of just flashing the indicators
Service
Neede too much argument with service manager to resolve the alignment problem
