Volkswagen Passat Saloon 1.9 Sport TDI 4d (2001/Y) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Not quite such a waste of money as a 3-Series BMW, but not too far behind.
Costs
Dealers and parts fairly pricey.

On the road
Driving
Engine too heavy for the sport set-up, have to work very hard to keep the car where you want it to go on a twisty road. Crashes over bumps and frequently bottoms out on speed bumps, headlights awful. Nice 6th gear on the motorway.
Performance
Very powerful diesel engine but a bit noisy with lots of rumble feeding back through the pedals at low revs.

Living with it
Reliability
Struggles a bit to start on cold mornings, by comparison Laguna DCI starts easily in all weathers.
Image
Looks great inside and out, but very poor ride overshadows any points it scores here.
Comfort
Sport seats are like sitting on two planks of wood.

Seems OK, but fortunately not tested.
