Volkswagen Passat Saloon (2005 - 2010) 1.6 S FSI 4d Owner Review

In their own words
I’ve always owned Passat’s. I’ve owned one of every series used not new. When buying used I always give the car a full service, cam belt and brake discs&pads and tracking&balancing. Change brake fluid and lubricate all working parts like doorlocks&hinges etc. I grease the rear suspension yearly and any undercarriage area prone to rust. Weekly I wash and wax my car. Simple care for any car prolongs it’s life and reliability. The 1.6 fsi is a weak engine but more than adequate for daily driving. Super unleaded is the best fuel to use only for performance. I only use fully synthetic oil on a service and quality service parts. Other than 2 rear electric brake callipers (£69 each off eBay) and 2 new front callipers (£36 each off eBay) 4 new coil packs as someone fitted a aftermarket one not the same size, a complete exhaust system due to both catalytic converters being holed, 2 lambda sensors, 4 new tyres, 4 brake discs and pads and both wings rusted from new dealt with under warranty but at the age needed replacing. I scoured 2 off eBay from a reputable Chinese manufacturer under license fully colour coded and a perfect match to my 13 year old original paint with serial numbers and UK support for £114 each. They were 100% fit. I’ve never had any problems bar a starting one. I used a car vacuum near the foot pedals. I did not know the steering lock is at the bottom and the magnetism of the vacuum motor activated the immobiliser for 6 hours. The electronic steering, Ecu and immobiliser all shut down. I average 720 miles on a tankful in summer and 620 in winter. The seats, fabric dash etc are modern looking and for the age of the car still look far superior to many new cars. Great car, economical, practical and smart looking. I’ve since upgraded the radio to a factory fit fully integrated canbus unit from China running Android 8 that is a 9” screen gps model with every feature you need and full Oem fit with no buttons and gives the interior a very modern look over the old radio. Again off eBay and for the aftermarket VW/Audi range specific fit, no modifications as it’s a direct fit including wiring.
