Summary
What does this car say about you?
I'm not sure it says anything about me but the VW Passat is a remarkably tough car - a veritable panzer on the road, although one with chrome flashes which give it an elegant and understated charm that its competitors. At the same time, it is a workhorse for the family.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
It's island grey appearance and chrome flashes have been much admired. So, too, have its quiet cabin and comfortable seats. Some unkind people think it is boring in comparison with SUVs and crossovers, but I reckon the classic 3-box saloon VW Passat ticks more boxes on my list than any of these fashionable cars.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Very much so. I would at the present moment, but time will tell.
What are you likely to buy next?
I am most likely to buy another family car, probably a VW Passat.

Did you get a good deal and why?
I did get a good deal - in the end, but I had to return on at least three occasions and do some tough negotiating to lower the salesman's original offer.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
It was a comparatively good deal in that it had many options and was on promo. Also, I preferred it over the competition.
What was the dealer like?
The VW dealer was very professional and very sharp.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
The Passat's home is the autobahn and so it is a pleasure to drive on long hauls. The steering wheel is not immediately responsive but that is not a bad thing because it means you need less corrections on the motorway. The car corners well, but on rough surfaces the ride is somewhat firm at times.
What's it like to park?
It is easy to park despite being 477cm long. The car turns easily and it isn't that wide so you shouldn't risk door damage when the kids get out.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Nothing has gone wrong so far. That said, the car is only eight months old. I've done 10,000 miles already though. Two things: the cigarette lighter became jammed after one of the kids pushed in to try it and afterwards (a related problem) the socket did not work. VW sorted it immediately.
What's most practical about your car?
The car has a great driving-position and excellent visibility and is also remarkably quiet. Low cabin noise means that you can chat without raising your voice - highly desirable with kids. The dashboard layout is thoughtful and the interior space is just right.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The 315 sat-nav is very useful when on holiday in Europe.
