Had the Passat BITDI RLine 2yrs now. Awesome torque monster (240bhp) , average 38mpg on daily runs, 55 on a motorway cruise. With the standard DSC you've literally got x3 cars in 1. Sports mode for when you fancy a blast, comfort mode which softens the suspension for driving miss Daisy. It really is a fantastic bit of kit. I had the golf R previously but needed a larger car for the kids/dog. Purchased it nearly new x2 years ago from Huddersfield VW. My only niggle is the diesel engine refinement, ok once you're past 30mph, little gruff on start up etc. The build quality is excellent, lovely thud of the doors when closing, it's on a 16 plate but everything feels a tight as the day I purchased it. Would not hesitate to buy another. Fantastic value for money.
