Economy
Costs
I've had almost 9 years from this car with (touch wood) no major expense other than initial outlay.

On the road
Driving
Fine. lack of power steering is my only exercise though I'll be sure to buy a model with power steering as standard next time.
Performance
Have really enjoyed my little Polo, but now am moving on to bigger and better things.

Living with it
Reliability
Faulty 'cold start' sensors plagued my car in the beginning and now faulty 7 years after renewing. Only meant I needed several attempts to start it though, never left me stranded. Enjoyed free VW emergency service in beginning for easy tyre changes etc.
Image
Not exactly a BMW or Audi.
Comfort
Adequate.

Security and Service
Security
Unless you leave the face off radio on, why would anyone want to steal it. Immobiliser was standard - saw another reviewer say it 'needed alarm and immobiliser' - I got alarm fitted for under 8K new.
Service
Will not be fooled by dealer again. Going private to trusted garage from day 1.

Engine
Faulty starter from beginning, sporadic so not discovered on many many checks by dealer.
Other
Exhaust noisy after going thru puddles since first replacement part at about 4 yrs. Needed towed twice since six years old following big puddle incidents. Thread on tow bar pulled out by towing 1yr ago. VW fitted alarm dodgy until waterproofed in bin bag!
