Value
Overpriced compared to competitors. Fair depreciation.
Costs
Official urban fuel consumption figures only gained with very careful driving. Dealer service charges high.

On the road
Driving
Excellent drive at lower speeds around town, very responsive. Loses edge slightly at higher speeds but still a very thorough driving experience.
Performance
Very punchy and responsive engine but at the expence of fuel economy. Drive very carefully for adequate performance, and good mpg.

Living with it
Reliability
Engine very trouble free, no problems in two and half years. very minor occurances of electric windows, interior lights failing but otherwise excellent.
Image
A touch of class, Volkswagen superior image even with this mid range model.
Comfort
Excellent interior, very hard wearing, good leg room at rear (with averaged size driver in front). Comfortable and versatile driving position with height adjustable steering and seats.

Security and Service
Security
If buying, be sure to superglue the detatchable aerial to its slot, or it will go missing.
Service
High dealer charges, poor customer relations. I also own a Toyota, and their dealers are so much more friendly than Volkswagen's and less interested in only the cash.
