    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good value if you pick it up second hand.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Insurance isn't too bad but chews its way through petrol and front tyres!!.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good Tight handling compared to some of VW's other GTI's of the time , power steering is a little light though!!

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Great nippy 1.6 16v engine but needs a 6th gear.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    2 out of 5 2.0

gearbox exploded in a shower of ball bearings and cogs twice in 10k miles , central locking has went t*$s up and rear wiper is possesed by the devil

    Image

    5 out of 5 5.0

much much better than standard polo's , I really cant stress how much better the interior in than standard polo's . Exterior is also a marked improvement with BBS split rim alloys (prone to flaking) and subtle body styling

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

seats are very supportive on long journeys and the suspension manages to be sporty without giving a harsh ride.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

Cat1 immobiliser and alarm as standard.

    Service

    2 out of 5 2.0

servie dept are idiots , took it back for an outstanding pedal box recall and was told it would only take 30 mins (i was dubious as soon as i heard that) , ended up taking 2 days!!

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

HT leads corroding, leads to misfire and leads are expensive as only Polo & Lupo GTI's have these 16v engines.

    Other

Central locking dead, rear wiper only works when it wants to and then for however long it feels like it. Even with these issues it is still a fantastic car but I just want something with 4wd and at least 1 turbo now!!
