Summary
What does this car say about you?
I listened too much to ads about how tough a polo is.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
They like it - until we tell them it's the most unreliable car we've owned which you just don't expect from a VW.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Absolutely NOT. The poor reliability has put us right off.
What are you likely to buy next?
Maybe a mini.

Buying experience

£0
When did you buy the car?
January 2005
Did you get a good deal and why?
Haggled a bit.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
We'd had one as a hire car and liked the fact it had a bigger car feel to it, and seemed well screwed together.
What was the dealer like?
Good to deal with.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
The 1.4 petrol auto is lacking in guts but for round town and occasional longer trips, it's fine.
What's it like to park?
Easy.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Plenty - far too many for a car which has been looked after and still only has around 30K on the clock. I've subsequently found from the VW/audi forum that many are common failures/weaknesses (e.g. the dashboard-out failure of the heater flap motors). Add to that oxygen sensor fail, filler flap motor fail, suspension spring break, heated mirror elements failing etc etc. If it was a horse, I think I'd have shot it by now.
What's most practical about your car?
Plenty of space for a small car.
