Volkswagen Polo Hatchback 1.4 Twist TDI 5d (2003/53) Owner Review

Economy
Value
The VW badge always comes at a premium, but I believe you get what you pay for with this manufacturer.
Costs
Running costs are cheap. Long service intervals (10,000 miles), so no complaints here.

On the road
Driving
Generally excellent all round. Negatives: 0-30mph a bit slow, not easy to see over your shoulder during motorway driving.
Performance
The diesel engine becomes quiet very quickly. The TDI engine excells at speed. Power assisted steering is very accurate. 4 disc brakes add to the safety. I could go on forever.

Living with it
Reliability
Can VW really be beaten for manufacturing reliable engines?
Image
Perhaps not as 'cool' as its counter parts (Nissan Micra, BMW Mini etc), but I feel it gets much more respect than most others. The new headlights are pretty funky though!
Comfort
Height adjustment available on both driver and front passenger seats. Plenty of leg room all over the car. Seats are firm enough for long journeys and soft enough for short ones. Just lacks the luxury feeling.

Security and Service
Security
Factory fitted alarm and immobiliser, and steering wheel lock. Not exactly Fort Knox but I feel safe leaving mine anywhere.
Service
Gilder's VW Hillsborough Sheffield. Excellent after sales service. Very professional set up. My next car will be bought from there without a doubt.
