Summary
What does this car say about you?
It says I was wrong to think a VW would be reliable.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
N/A
Would you buy this car again and why?
No. Too unreliable, I don't want the stress of dealing with a non-functioning new car on a wintry road and with the often awkward VW network, even if they aren't all unhelpful.
What are you likely to buy next?
Mini.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchised
Did you buy this car new?
Yes
What price did you pay?
£0
When did you buy the car?
November 2011
Did you get a good deal and why?
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
What was the dealer like?
One dealer (Worcs.) not helpful or sympathetic to customer with hopelessly unreliable new VW. Very disappointing. Other dealer (Cambs.) very good.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Smooth, refined, but 60bhp is barely enough so it needs plenty of revs to keep up with traffic. High gearing in 5th makes for easy motorway cruising. I like the unusual 3-cylinder tone, but 70bhp version would be better. Torquier 1.4 even better, choice as more economical than rev-happy 1.2.
What's it like to park?
Rear & 3-qtr visibility isn't very good but overall dimensions and light steering make parking easy with familiarity.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
SCHOCKINGLY UNRELIABLE!!! 1. ENGINE ELECTRICS FAILURE ON DELIVERY. 2.WASHER MOTOR FAILURE AFTER 3 MONTHS. 3.PAINT PEELING FROM REAR BUMPER (VW forgot to apply undercoat). 4.BOOT LOCKING MECHANISM FAULTY, ("Fault not found") 5.LIGHTING CIRCUIT FAILURE WARNING COMES ON REPEATEDLY FOR NO REASON. ("They all do that, Sir") 6.STEREO USB AUX ADAPTER FAULTY. VERY UNRELIABLE OVER 5 MONTHS OF STRESSFUL OWNERSHIP.
What's most practical about your car?
Good interior space. Split-level boot is nice to have.
