Volkswagen Tiguan (2016 - 2024) 1.4 TSI eHybrid R-Line 5dr DSG Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I have this car has a company car and unfortunately I'm stuck with it for 3 years.
Picked VW has previously they've built good cars. But this one is frustrating. It is more computer than car and every time you start the car it resets itself to its annoying settings...
Lane Keep Assist is dangerous and very distracting to switch off, having to use 3 sets of controls to do so. Country lanes it tries to force you off road to keep central, motorways with our road works it picks up all kinds of lines.. likes to drive at parked cars and cyclists also, the car does not want you yo go round them, rather crash in to them.. you need to signal in quite in advance for it to allow you to change lane and even then sometimes it still seems not to want to allow you to! I don't see how this is a safety feature though, when it works it is encouraging that you don't need to keep your eyes on the road!
The car also likes to switch itself off when you leave it running also and resets all the settings again! I guess this is green credentials for no idling but annoying when you jump out to open gates and then the car switches off when you select drive again!
ACC is frustrating that you can't have standard cruise control... keeping distance is 90% ok, occasionally it has wanted to rear end a car!
But the speed sign recognition is awful, and it finds signs that aren't even there and slams the brakes on the motorway saying its a 20 all of a sudden!!
Ironically the speed limiter doesn't read the speed signs so once set you have to manual adjust... and strangely left and right adjust the speed by 1mph.. not the usual up and down in most other cars. Took me a while and a google to figure this...
Eco mode uses more fuel than sport weirdly... most of my commute is in 50mph Road works and traffic... Eco mode gets 30mpg and sport returns 40mpg.. similarly don't use the "B" setting on the gear box just stick with "D".
On all electric which takes forever to charge-over 5hours!!! But again weirdly if you dont allow it to get a full charge nd stop somewhere around 90-95% you get more miles on all electric... I can push for 35miles if not fully charged.
Fully charged then I get around 25... go figure. But someone at work says the same with their Audi A3 so maybe this is a battery thing...
The boot is tiny for such a big car on the outside. My dog is not happy with the change of car.
Seats are not comfy on long distance, they are not big enough to support the back of your knees.
Sat nav does not find addresses or post codes, but if you use the VW app on your mobile which can find locations and send the location to the car nav, then once working the instructions are good. Just you need to wait a while for it to boot up and receive the location.
Android auto is not wireless no matter what vw say... connect, disconnect, constant repeat. You need to plug the phone in via cable and do so every trip otherwise all you hear is the car trying to connect to android auto and the message constantly popping up on screen...
Radio signal seems poor, I find more often than previous I am out of signal range..
Touch sensitive steering very annoying, and I find I get hot hands not on request! Very easy annoyingly so to switch on the heated steering.
Climate control seems just blow the air temp from outside in the cabin. So I manual adjust the temperature myself..
Overall an expensive disappointment from VW. So glad to be lucky and not paying the bill for this car.
No I would not recommend and I would even say this would make me think about VW again in future.
