Volkswagen Tiguan (2016 - 2024) 2.0 TSI 320 4Motion R 5dr DSG Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I previously owned a Passat Estate and a Tiguan R-Line but wanted something much sportier this time around. The Tiguan R is simply stunning and I challenge anyone to find a better performance/specification/practicality package at the price. I have a large dog and teenage kids which drove the baseline requirement for another estate/SUV: something I am sure I share with many people. I am a private buyer and therefore use my own hard earned money so before buying I also looked at the Porsche Macan, Audi SQ5 and Jag F Pace but the asking prices for something which matched the performance and spec of the Tiguan R were just silly: sorry kids, no holidays for the next few years 'cos Dad wants a Porsche badge on the drive instead of a VW. Alternatively, stick to a sensible price limit and get a poverty spec Macan with 60 fewer horses and less space. Additionally, the F Pace was ruled out because one of my colleagues is on her 3rd F Pace having had to reject the first two because of problems Jaguar could not fix.
Overall, the DCC gives the R a broad appeal: dial everything down and it's more comfortable than my previous R-Line Tech for the school run: turn everything up to 11 and you can literally take it to a track day. Do yourself a favour and buy one - you will love it.
How reliable do you find the car?
This is my 3rd VW on the trot: Passat Estate SE Nav, Tiguan R-Line Tech and now the Tiguan R. They have all been faultless.
Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
The Tiguan R is simply brilliant and the DCC in particular gives it a stunning breadth of ability. Dial everything down and it's more comfortable than my previous R-Line Tech: turn everything up to 11 and you can take it to a track day
