Volkswagen Touareg (2003 - 2009) 2.5 TDI SE Sport 5d Auto Owner Review

Bought my 2.5 Sport SE in January 2014 with 80,000 miles I have added another 60,000. I wanted a good tow vehicle for a caravan. Towing capacity 3.5 tons, doesn't feel there is anything on the tow hitch, pulls well and stays level. I like the rear seats which are comfortable with good head, shoulder and leg room. I like the boot lid window which opens independently for easy access in tight parking spaces. On average I get 650 miles on full tank. These can suffer from electrical gremlins. Mine had a failed heated seat, heater fan that wouldn't switch off, both easily fixed. I did have the demon power drain which was traced to the radio head unit. I upgraded to a modern aftermarket touch screen unit. The added benefit is I now have bluetooth, hands free, SatNav, DAB and apple CarPlay. The build quality is superb. My car is 15 years old everything is in one piece and works. There is absolutely no rust anywhere even underneath. Servicing is not expensive if you use an independent specialist. If you want a fast SUV the 2.5 is not for you. But if you want a mile muncher, great tow vehicle as well as good off-road capability with diff lock and low range you won't go far wrong.
