Drive is very easy and smooth, power is superb and again very smooth delivery. 8 speed tiptronic auto gearbox is brilliant (ignore what some dealers say, this IS NOT a DSG gearbox it's a standard automatic).
Space is excellent for all passengers, including great legroom in the back - even behind me and I'm 6'3!
Boot is a really good size - not as big as some of its 7 seat competitors (this doesn't have a 7 seat option), but still enough for 2 big dogs or loads of shopping.
I've not towed with mine but I understand from other owners that they tow really well - if that's your plan though then look for a factory fitted towbar (as they're a fortune to get properly fitted) and air suspension as this includes a self-levelling feature.
Although the 4 wheel drive setup is very good and has an offload setting, if you want even more capability then look at the Escape model which has electronic diff locks too.
Overall this is the best mid-to-large size SUV I've owned (and I've had several). Given the choice to buy again, I'd choose the Touareg every time - it's the perfect combination of quality, practicality, comfort and reliability with just enough class to be impressive and accepted in any scenario without being ostentatious.
Honestly, jump in and test drive one and you'll stop looking at alternatives.
