As this car is targeted specifically at families it will come as little surprise that the new generation Touran comes loaded with safety kit for optimum protection. It scored the maximum five stars during Euro NCAP crash testing.

As well as featuring up to nine airbags and five Isofix points, the new Touran also uses new high-strength steel which has been optimised for crash situations.

Depending on the trim you decide to buy there’s a wealth of driver assistance systems available, some of which make their debut in the new Touran like the Automatic Post-Collision braking system, which automatically slows the car down if it’s involved in an accident to prevent a secondary collision.

Available as standard there is a Pre-Crash proactive occupant protection system which automatically tightens seats belts, and closes the windows and panoramic sunroof if the system detects a possible collision.

Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, available as standard from SE, warns you if you’re getting too close to the car in front. If ignored the system will send a warning jolt through the steering wheel, and if not enough braking is applied, the car will intervene and automatically brake.

Side Assist uses a blindspot monitoring system to detect if it’s unsafe to pull out of lane while the Rear Traffic Alert system uses radar based sensors to detect if anything is approaching if you’re reversing out of a parking space and vision is limited.

If you’re planning on doing any towing in your Touran, Trailer Assist is also available for the first time which can automatically park the car for you.

Other kit like a tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic hazard lights during full braking, parking sensors and a speed limiter are available across the range too.
