Volkswagen Up (2012 - 2023) 1.0 High Up 3d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
My wife and I had just retired and decided we wanted a large car for trips and carrying stuff, for which we bought a Mercedes Benz C Class Estate, and a small car for shopping and more local journeys. My wife had owned lots of VWs before and always liked them so off we went to the VW dealer next door to the Benz shop. The Up was on offer and whilst I was somewhat ambivalent about the car it ticked the boxes for what we wanted. In practice I used the Up for some long journeys in the early days but now it only travels short distances, hence barely 20,000 miles in six years. And much to my surprise I have grown rather fond of it and expect to hold onto the car for a lot longer yet. It does everything you would expect of from a small city car and is very economical when you take into account its fuel consumption and lack of any serious problems. I get very upset on the odd occasion it does less than 50mpg and can quite easily achieve 60mpg even on short journeys. With the seats down it takes loads of shopping.
The only things I don't like are: the seat backs get in the way when reversing as they are very tall and tricky to see around, and the clunky Garmin satnav.
How reliable do you find the car?
In six years the car has had regular services, a few lightbulbs and a replacement rear windscreen wiper. Nothing else, not eve the tyres are anywhere near needing replacement. There was a sloshing noise from the doors where rainwater had become trapped necessitating removing rubber seals at the bottom. Since then no problems.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
It was bought as a shopping / short distance car and it does all of this brilliantly.About their car
