Volkswagen Vento 1.8 CL 4d Auto (1993/K) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Cheap to buy, but not worth much now compared to equivalent Golf. Not much equipment, though.
Costs
Parts are expensive and its needed quite a few.
-
On the road
Driving
Rolly-polly round corners, but not bad - better than Golf.
Performance
Needs a lead foot to get it moving quickly and runs out of puff above 65mph (must be the auto box). Good engine pull, though.

Living with it
Reliability
Starts up and runs, but always seems to require new parts just as it seems to be running smoothly. Central Locking erratic, eats light bulbs.
Image
Drab to look at. VW badge is only plus point - not to be seen in.
Comfort
Can accommodate 5 people and their luggage - quite spacious for size.
-
Security and Service
Security
Not tested.
Service
Now serviced outside franchised dealers - much cheaper and better service! VW dealers need to go back to charm school!

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
New air inlet manifold. Engine cooling had to be flushed twice (misfiring) - but reliable.
Other
Rear suspension, exhaust, tracking, braking et al.
