Volkswagen Vento 1.9 CL Turbo 4d (1995/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
It is a Golf for those who aren't plebs. Which means £1000 cheaper than a Golf, for the same car with better storage!
Costs
Find a good local garage (specialists can be very condescending too) who you hear about by word of mouth. Costs are about average, and in between services… nothing!

On the road
Driving
About the same as a golf. Maybe better overall balance as the back hangs as much as the front, but also a little heavier for that.
Performance
It's got 75bhp and weighs a lot! However, it still sits nicely and gets up to speed ok, just not a supercar.

Living with it
Reliability
I sold mine with an idiotically low 82k miles on the clock. It will probably still be going long after my next car bites the dust!
Image
Very poor, as saloons in this country don't sell well. But visited LA last year, and they're EVERYWHERE! And stll called the Jetta!
Comfort
Comfy even on long rides. Rake and reach not adjustable, but seat height is, and that makes it better.

Security and Service
Security
Nothing as standard. Fitted Thatcham immobiliser. It's a vento, who wants one? They'll steal the Golf next to it, and you can drive past him… laughing!
Service
Find a good local dealer. Rember that your internals are shared with VW/Audi, Seat and Porche, so prices for generic components can be unfairly steep, or very low, depending!

VW TD. 4 letters that allow you to sleep easy if serviced!

Clutch cabe went and was a bit expensive, but all else was good. May keep it in the family if I can't sell it.
